![]() The Training Institute The Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the New York Freudian Society offers a variety of programs in both New York City and Washington, DC for the student interested in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and parent-infant treatment. We are a Component Society of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA). The IPA is the oldest and largest international psychoanalytic organization and the world's primary accrediting and regulatory body for psychoanalysis. We are a fully chartered by the Board of Regents in New York State. We anticipate that our Adult Psychoanalysis Program will be able to offer certificates of completion that would enable graduates to obtain a License in Psychoanalysis (LP). Our programs are: Adult Psychoanalysis in NY (Track A & Track B) Adult Psychoanalysis in DC Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis in NY Anni Bergman Parent-Infant Toddler Training Program in NY Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program in NY Explorations Program in NY Fellowship Program in NY Fellowship Program in DC Training at both of our Adult Psychoanalysis Programs, as well as in the Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Program, involves 4 to 5 years of course instruction, a personal analysis, and analysis conducted under supervision. The Adult Psychoanalysis Program in New York is offered in two tracks: Track A is for clinicians who have a New York State License in the fields of Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing (as a Nurse Practitioner); Track B (pending approval by NYSED) is for applicants who are interested in a certificate of completion in order to qualify for a License in Psychoanalysis (LP), and is in most respects identical to Track A except for the additional courses and clinical work required by the New York State Education Department. Applicants for Track B may include Masters-level clinicians who are Licensed Creative Arts Therapists, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, as well as graduates of Masters and Doctoral programs who have a strong interest in psychoanalysis. The Adult Psychoanalysis Program in Washington is designed to enable candidates who live in other geographical locations, or who have schedules that preclude taking weekly classes, to train at NYFS-DC, since classes meet from 9:00 to 5:00 on 12 Saturdays each academic year. The Anni Bergman Parent-Infant Training Program, designed for the graduate analyst or advanced psychoanalytic candidate, is offered in New York in collaboration with the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR). For the student interested in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, we offer a two-year program involving coursework and supervised therapy in New York. Our Explorations Program, also in New York, is a one-year sequence of classes designed for those who want to learn more about the principles of the psychodynamic therapies. In addition, our one-year Fellowship Programs in New York and Washington are for people who are interested in learning about psychoanalysis and analytic training by attending case conferences and mentoring sessions with our Members.
